Plastics Group of America Upgrading Its Production and Storage Facility

Challenges Abound When Updating a 100+-Year Old Structure

(Woonsocket, Rhode Island – October 26, 2016) – Bob Lebeaux, president at The Plastics Group of America (TPG), is undertaking a renovation of the 100+-year old mill building that currently houses some of the company’s storage and recycling capabilities. These improvements will simplify the workflow process at the building and provide the company with easier access to additional floors in the 400,000 square foot building.

Before any of the planned projects could be started, the company had to receive approval for its long-ranging plans from Rhode Island’s Department of Environmental Management. Because the building is close to the Blackstone River, the company had to construct special catch basins for water runoff around its proposed new loading dock. The company received the DEM’s stamp of approval just last month and immediately began moving forward with its complementary plans.

The first part of this million-dollar project involved adding a curb cut out behind the building at 84 Fairmount to enable easier access to the site, and to the aforementioned loading dock that is being built at the back of the building. Off the loading dock will be a state-of-the-art lift with a 20,000 lb. capacity. The 15’ X 11” platform will also have a built-in scale for properly weighing materials being transported both into and out of the building, providing TPG with this valuable capability.

Commenting on these latest projects, Bob proudly stated “this is a significant undertaking for the company. Making these upgrades to the Fairmount site have required careful planning in order to minimize the impact on areas with historical significance in the building. We have also received invaluable input and direction from the office of Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt that have enabled us to undertake these improvements. Each will measurably improve the functionality of the building and we look forward to completing all of the planned upgrades in the months ahead.”
